After much wailing and gnashing of teeth my fabled writing prompts book and spectacular system for story writing finally make their ebook debut.

Almost every writer has a pathological predisposition to procrastination and often believe there is a magical answer to the question ‘where do you get your ideas?’.

Well now, whether you write Twitfic, Microfiction, Flash Fiction, Short Short Stories, Short Stories, Novelettes, Novellas, Novels or Scripts you can tell everyone that you get your ideas from this writing prompts ebook.

Not Just A Writing Prompts eBook

This is a prompts book. Oh yes. But it’s a prompts book with a BIG difference. The prompts in this book aren’t the usual, run-of-the-mill, mind numbingly boring prompts you usually get.

Oh, no. Not here.

And this is not the sort of book that’s just going to give you a prompt and expect you to know what to do with it. No matter what form your writing takes, this book will show you an easy way to get the ideas out of your brain and transformed into stories.

How? Well that’s the easy part – firstly there’s Mr Maxwell’s Spectacular Story Suggester.

A simple method of taking whichever prompt you choose and getting it straight into the easiest possible form so you can get to the important part – writing the story.

There is, of course, more. The author has taken a prompt and written a Flash Fiction story from it and then explained exactly how he did it.

Then Adrian Graham, a prolific microfiction author whose ebooks have been downloaded over 120 thousand times has written some exquisite stories and explained how to create micro-magic from the prompts

Next Rosalind Wyllie, a tremendous playwright whose plays have been performed up and down the country by fine companies of players (including the RSC) has penned a short script and taken time from her busy schedule to describe how she weaved her magic.

And last but by no means least the fantastic Y.A. author Mr C.G. Allan has written a children’s short story and then explained just how it went from prompt to print.

By the time you’ve inhaled this book you mind will be an overflowing well of wonderful ideas and even better – you’ll know what to do with them.

After much wailing and gnashing of teeth my fabled writing prompts book and spectacular system for story writing finally make their ebook debut.

Given that this is a writing prompts book and focuses on how you can conquer procrastination, writer’s block and get you to write, write and write some more it’s pretty ironic that I left it on the shelf for the best part of a year.

That said the wait is now well and truly over as my new writing prompts book has launched in ebook form. ‘Lost The Plot? 500 Writing Prompts and How To Use Them’ has hit the virtual shelves of Amazon and Smashwords already and it’ll be making its way further and further afield as the days and weeks zip by.

So I expect you’ll want to know what you get for the pittance I’m charging for it then?

500 Writing Prompts

Well the clue was in the title really wasn’t it? Given the absolutely phenomenal popularity of the writing prompts generator on this very site the thought gradually dawned on me that there was a demand from you lovely people for really good writing prompts. But I wanted to offer value for money (hence the five hundred prompts in the book versus the hundred and change on the site).

Mr Maxwell’s Spectacular Story Suggester

Wuh?

Well it’s a snazzy name for a simple system to help you take any idea and develop it into a full blown story. What kind of story is up to you so I pretty much hedged my bets and covered:

Twitfic

Microfiction

Flash Fiction

Short Short Stories

Short Stories

Novelettes

Novellas

Novels

Scripts

Going through each one and having a bit of a ruminate on how it works.

Creative Writing From Prompts

Because sometimes you want more from you tomes of writing advice I got together some writers in different genres to pick prompts, write something from them and then tell you, dear reader, how they did it.

Firstly it was me. Well, who else would it have been? It’s my book isn’t it? I wrote a bit of Flash Fiction and then described, very simply, how I went from idea to story.

Then Adrian Graham, a prolific microfiction author whose ebooks have been downloaded over 120 thousand times wrote some exquisite stories and explained how to create micro-magic from the prompts.

It is with relief I can finally point you to the newly working Writing Prompts Generator. It has the same content as the prompts generator from the old design of the website but doesn’t (yet) have any snazzy javascript on it.

I know how many people use it and I really just wanted to get it working in the first place. Now that it is working I will be looking to improve it and make it a bit more pretty. So all you have to do is go to the page and the prompt will display in the right hand column. Refresh the page and a new one will appear.

I labelled the box ‘Writing Prompt’ just to be on the safe side… If you can’t find it then perhaps you might want to seek medical attention.

Looking for an idea for a story? Look not further.

Look Right

If you glance to the column on your right you will see a prompt. I am still improving the system so right now you will have to refresh the page to receive another.

Breaking News

Very soon indeed there will be a Writing Prompts book available. Entitled ‘Mr Maxwell’s Spectacular Story Suggester’, it will feature writing prompts, contributions and essays on using the prompts and a spectacular story suggestion system to cut through writers block.

How Does It Work?
How Do I Use It?

Whether you are a writer of short stories, flash fiction, novels or any other genre you can name sometimes you need a place to start. This is designed to be one of those starting points. The random writing prompt generator will give you, as you would expect, a randomly generated phrase. All you have to do is write a story from it.

Whether you use it as you title, theme or end up writing something completely different doesn’t really matter. The important thing is that the prompt gets you writing.

So I suppose you are wondering why I built this tool? Well, the reasons are twofold.

Firstly, all I did was provide the pipework connecting the digital cameras above a thousand, thousand typing monkeys and connected it to this screen. Those monkeys work hard and occasionally produce nuggets of art which I then record here for your viewing pleasure.

Secondly, there are a lot of tools on the interet that do a similar thing but all of those I have seen so far either look awful, don’t work, have rubbish writing prompts or have so few as to not really make it worthwhile using.

Well hopefully you like the look of this, it will work, the monkeys will provide writing prompts that are a bit more inspirational than the ‘write about what you did in your summer holidays’ of some sites. Add that to the fact there are currently over 100 prompts already in there with more being added all the time I hope it will provide a useful tool to help your writing.
